Cover

Page 1, Statement

Page 2

Hello Everyone,
Is anyone else having issues finding a good layout that works with landscape photos on Lulu? I can't find a blank one and it's most frustrating... ;)
Happy 4th!

I think you should change the text. If you want something whimsical try one of the website Thom showed us. I think you cover and your statement should be on two different pictures. And I think I'd rather see you text off your pictures. Are just taking pictures of the clouds? I think if so you need the cover to reflect that and have no ground in it. You should be able to crop that image to do that. I LOVE that I can see a face in the "page 2." But I think the text and black border make it look like an inspirational poster.
I am not sure what you are saying about a blank one. There is an option of a landscape sized book.

I think there is a lot of potential here. I think if you want to concentrate on going back to childhood, you should make the book more kidish. Have fun with it!

Karen-
Your photos are very beautiful. My crit would be the text. I'm not too crazy about the style and placement. Are you working on doing a more child like book? If so the I would suggest a different cover that is more childlike. I think you have a very good concept that just needs a little tweaking. Keep those beautiful pictures coming!

Hi Karen,

I agree strongly with everything Jessica and Jess said.
The font is a big one, you have to find one that works or the inspirational calender influence will ruin everyone's mind before they get close enough to see your shapes.
Get rid of the black.
Full Bleed option maybe?
Text definitely on its own page.
This will take some tweeking but we can do it!
Keep plugging away.

The only crit I really have is that I don't think you should use the 1st page as the cover image as well. You should utilize the cover as another opportunity for another image.

Karen,

I think you should play around with a different font. Also agree with not using the same image for cover and statement.

As for the layout, are you looking in the photobook options? If you are you will only find pre-made templates. You should go into paperback or hardcover options under publishing. From there you can choose your size and binding style. From there you will have to lay everything out according to the page sizes for your book in photo shop or illustrator.

hope that helped, and good luck!

Karen,

I’m on the same page as everyone else seems to be. I would definitely change your text to something cleaner, use a different image for the statement, get rid of all borders, and put your text on a separate page. As for the title, I would possibly get rid of ‘The’ and just call it Skies of Imagination or play around with a few more titles. The statement is nice, but I’d consider writing a statement from a child’s perspective and see which one you like better. I’m looking forward to this book of yours.

Nice idea but the text is killing me! There are soooo many options that could really enhance your idea. I am excited to see more images b/c I totally look at clouds all the time and pick out what they look like. This book will be a fun and make people want to search through it.

Karen, I agree with everybody else, the text, the borders, the cover... I really think you can make this book amazing and fun. Just play with your words more, any work of art that involves text needs to be well thought out, or it will not work. The words become distracting...
The pictures are very beautiful :)
May be a little more time on the computer and you'll see improvement.

I love the artist statement. However, I don't feel it when I view your first image. I agree that the statement page and title page background need to be different. Maybe you could find a way to make the image in the cloud you want seen stand out a bit more. I'd suggest staying away from too many sunsets as well, or the viewer's attention might be more focused on the sunset itself.

I agree with everybody else on the text. I think that you can find another one that compliments the picture a little bit better. After changing a few minor things, I think that this booklet can be a success.
