My new idea is based on color. I want to take pictures of neutral colors. I want to show them in a very colorful way. I am thinking about having several definitions of the word neutral in the mix as well, but I am not sure how that will work. Generally, the thought of neutrals is boring. Neutral colors are meant to enhance and bring out more vibrant colors. I want the layout and everything to be a bit neutral while the pictures of the neutral colors stand out. I think I will have variations of grey, brown, black and white. I took a brown picture to give you guys an idea.

I want to have a bunch of object in each picture with no other color. I might photoshop color out if necessary. Some objects may be used more than once.
I think the cover will have various neutral tones but with a loud design. I am still working on it.
I have a lulu account and everything is set up for me to put my images up. I think I like the 7.444" x 9.681" size book.
I didn't want to put anything up on lulu because I am still really uncertain of the direction I want to go. I thought it would be best to get the class opinion first. I will make a mock cover after a final idea is picked. I think I'll stick with what ever the class decides.

Even though I thought you idea about the dead ends was pretty interesting, I do believe that the other photo is working better. The neutral color is striking and warm. The first picture you have of the sky looks like it is really beautiful but I can't enlarge it !! Bummer. I am focused more on the sky rather than the dead end.

Yeah, the dead end will only be interesting for me if you weave some kind of story or metaphor into it.
Perhaps if you go with this tonal idea--you pick a spectrum and it goes from one end to the other over the course of the book?
Sounds like it could be really beautiful, need no text and be about color form and shape, and still tell a kind of story? Cool.
Get on It! I am excited!

I think the new idea can be really well done formally, and its a nice simple concept.
"Follow your heart"...or something like that.
I think your second idea will be much more captivating, after seeing the photos. I do wish you would've made a cover mock up.
Let's see more!

Jessica E.,
We’ve already talked about the two ideas over the phone, but I will say again that the new concept is stronger than the first and will look better on pages of a book. Get to work on some of those “neutral” definitions and we’ll see if they fit with the pictures or not. Oh, and grab your safari hat. I’ll see you this week!

Jessica:
The dead end idea seems to be working well, it just needs something more going on than just being dead ends, it might get a little boring looking at 30 dead ends, ya know what I mean. As far as the tonal stuff goes, take more photos and really look for images that you WANT to photograph versus objects that just match.

Jessica, I love this picture you have for your second idea, very beautiful. I wanna see more. I think the book size will work too. You are not using text are you? I don't think you need it. what's your title?
More pictures please

Hi Jessica,
I'll comment in full on your new post for the Neutrals;)

I love the new idea alot better. From looking at the pictures that you have taken, the color and positioning of the picture creates a mood for me. It still looks like a dead end on each photograph but the sky stands out alot more. Im excited about seeing more of these images.
