Jeannine’s Book Sketch II.

As of now, my book is in landscape format, 9”x7”.

Note: None of the text/images are final.
This is a test front cover I’ve designed for TRANCEPORT. Click images to enlarge.

Page 1, Statement:

This is to provide the reader with some form of idea behind the feeling of the book and how it will be directed.

My goal during this book is to basically take the reader on a cosmic night drive starting at dusk and ending at dawn.

Again, this is all up for adjustment. Any input regarding this post will be much appreciated. I hope everyone is enjoying their summer!

Well, I told you what I thought. I am trying to think if there is anything else other than new text and play with indesign. I think maybe you should time stamp each picture to show the progression from dusk to dawn.

I don't really have any crits. I love what you have done. The artist statement makes me want to jump in the car and go with you.

I love the artist statement, it is seductive and challenging like the rest of your writing. Nice.

My only complaint is the Font. I cannot read the Title Font, though I enjoy the title and the wordplay. I think it needs to be much bigger. Scale is a big deal. Titles tend to look good big 24-36pt., paragraphs tend to look good in small type--12pt or so. (This is only a general rule)

If you use a cool funky text for the title, it is awesome--just pick a neutral, sans sarif (non-curly) for the rest of your document. Keep each page consistent.
Great, Great Start!

You're off to a good start but I would recommend one thing. I would hesitate to use any major photoshop filters because your pictures are abstract enough that you don't need it, they kind of kill the pictures. Let the pictures do their thing, you don't need to over kill with the filters. Maybe just play with the darkness/contrast but thats about it. Other than that, everything is great :D

The statement is very well done. It lures me into your car/book. The only crits I have are on your cover:
I dwelled for a little too long on the font --I had trouble making out what exactly it said. I think you should stay away from the photoshop filters as well. You manipulate the image from the shot, and I think that is enough.

Jeannine, just like everyone pointed out, the filter is not working. You have amazing photographs that do not need the filter. And the font can be better too. I like jessica's idea, the stamping, I like that much better than the text; let us find the timing on our own; may be you give it a shot? I also like your statement; It's short, it gets my attention easily, and it tells me what the photos are about; it works well. You are going to have a great book
My #1 suggestion: I think your photos are really strong and abstract, try not to interrupt them with words, let them do what they do, does that make sense?

I find the title hard to read in that font, but the rest turned out great. I believe this will be a beautiful book.

Hi Jeannine,

Your statement is so enticing! I'm ready for the ride!

I enjoyed your cover, but the font was hard to read, as you have heard over and over... If you really dig the font, can you manipulate it to be more legible?

As far as the filters go, I'd like to see the difference between filtered and non-filtered. With the filters, the images don't look like photographs.

I can't wait to see the rest of your work. I think I'm really going to like this trip you are taking us on;)

Happy Trails!
