I've been interested in photography for a while now and in that time I will have usually documented a scene or environment that has already existed. My idea behind my photo book is to get a little more of my hand in the environment in which I am capturing. The space I will be using is my living room; what will change is what choose to wrap/cover everything in. ***I am also working on the lighting situation. I will probably use the lighting kit which will hopefully guide me to something i will like and not something i am just settling for.

nice. so nice. why your living room?
i chose my living room for accessibility and the idea of a mostly communal space. to have people interacting with the space is a definite possibility and interests me as to how they will interact with the space. the materials that change the living room are not as accommodating to comfort and entertaining. I've noticed the space aesthetic is addressed first by persons who come upon it and but no one will use the space as it was originally intended.

This is fabulous Sam! How exciting!
It really addresses that fun space between sculptural installation documentation and conceptual photography.
Definitely experiment with the lighting, but I do not mind, personally, that the lighting is coming from the lamp and overhead. If you keep the same bulb in, and take it at night every time, from the same angle, it will stay consistent. That is good, and easier to control than a light kit going up and down once a week or so.
Good work--start working on a statement--sounds like you know what you want--that is good. will there be photos of people in the space?

On second look--lighting will really help. And that portfolio of paper or whater that is leaning against the wall on the left side is distracting. You will shoot this more before you start with another material correct?

Hi Sam,
What a bold idea! It looks like you’ve really worked hard to get this image. It’s definitely unusual, and kept my attention as I sought out each detail. I’m unclear on your wrapping intentions. Will you be using other materials also, or strictly paper products? Whatever you do, I’m sure the results will be amazing =) You are so talented. I think you are going to be one of those people about whom I can say, “I knew her when....”
Geeze, you’d think I want something from you! No worries, I’m set.

I took all of the cardboard down ten minutes ago and loaded it into my car! But I did I take multiple photos with different light sources so I have it well documented, but I definitely see what you mean with the portfolio. I also had a "duh" moment where I thought natural daylight might work better
... Well, I haven't taken the cardboard to the the recycling dumpster yet so I will reapply the cardboard to the room sometime in the next couple of nights because I would like to explore it further.
other materials will include:
- Barne's Grocery store ads
-Tin Foil
-Saran Wrap
and more.
I definitely would like to have people in the photographs as well. I was thinking 2 pages each for each material in my book.
Thanks for the feedback
You should know by now, I am totally into this idea. I have lights you can use as well as extra man power.

I can't wait to see how you will reconstruct your living space. I would also like to know if you will be using people.

Sam,
I like the idea of using the space you already have to twist and mold. It gives me the idea that you are the creator and that EVERYTHING is in your control, the view into the room, the material, the lighting, etc. Great idea.

SAM! This idea is genius. I have no idea where you get all of the time to reinvent your living room, but it's amazing. I wasn't quite sure what you meant when you were explaining yourself in the big circle of people (I'm fine and you know what I mean) but it's wonderful. How many pages do you think this will take up? I'd love to see a million raw materials other than cardboard. You've got a lot of work ahead of yourself!

This is such an amazing idea you are exploring. I think each photo will be very unique and engaging. Do you have text in your book? because I don't think you will even need text. I think the photos will have a lot of weight and expression to them that they wouldn't need anything additional to steal their thunder, unless you are using text to cover up your space. I can't wait to see what material you will use.
One suggestion: Have you thought about covering you entire area with note stickers, you know the ones we stick everywhere to remind ourselves to do something. They can even have little notes on them about something you want to remember in your dily life. It will take a lot of work but it'll be amazing. And not just note stickers but anything that use a lot in your life, like paper or pencils, paint... you know what I mean.
Good luck Sam

I'm a big fan of natural light. I think the juxtaposition between these really surreal settings and real lighting will create a nice aura or tension in the photos. Stages scenes and staged lighting might be a little much. Other than that, I don't really have anything to say. Your picture is gorgeous, of course, and I'm excited to see more.
Sam I think that your idea is great. One thing that my friend has in her living room is paintings on the wall. Are you going to make permenant or temporary changes for the final look?
