SORRY FOR THE DELAY WITH MY PAGE. I JUST RETURNED FROM EUROPE YESTERDAY AND I JUST STARTED TO FIX MY PAGE UP. FOR MY BOOKLET I THINK I WANT TO TAKE PHOTOS OF GRAFFITI WRITING ON WALLS, BUILDINGS, AND INTERSTATES. I NOTICED THAT IT IS VERY POPULAR IN BOTH COUNTRIES AND YOU CAN FIND IT IN MANY CITIES. I HAD ANOTHER IDEA OF PICKING ONE ITEM AND PHOTOGRAPHING IT IN MANY DIFFERENT PLACES BUT IM NOT QUITE SURE YET. WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK??

I think that you should go with the second idea, simply because there are many books that are well researched, that cover this topic. There are "graffiti historians" that chronical the work of street artist. http://www.amazon.com/Top-line-Graffiti-Books/lm/3A1KOY8NM50BCIf you did choose to do that you would need to address the paintings in a way that was not a documentary approach. That could be interesting and fun.
Give us more detail on the other idea. What object? What kind of places?

Hi Karmeshia,
Great subject. I love graffiti when it’s done well. Are you a graffiti artist and if so, will you be shooting any of your own work? I’m looking forward to seeing more.
Take care,
Karen Lynch
Hi Karmeshia,
I like the graffiti idea as well. I only hope you approach them more personally rather than from a moving vehicle through the window.

Ok, so I am probably the only person who is sick of seeing pictures of graffiti. Personal taste I guess. I mean I love it as an art form, but in photographs. It's not my thing. Maybe it's just the way I've seen it done. Try taking as many angled photographs of each build as possible. See what turns up. Maybe even add something you created to the mix.
My taste is not everyone's taste. If you love it, then I know it will be wonderful!

Karmeshia-
Graffiti is visually interesting, but I think I like your second idea better. The second idea is more original and it gives you a chance to great something of your own rather than something someone has already done. Hope your having fun on your trip, I'm jealous!

Karmeshia,
The grafitti idea is, of course, automatically visually interesting to the eye. But grafitti really only appealling (to me) because of the enviroment around and in it. MAybe try to include the neighborhood or street or people around.

Karemeshia,
I think you need to do some serious evaluation of ideas. I find graffiti visually interesting, but much of it is very repetitive. If you could find a way to photograph it differently and incorpororate your own art into it, I'd be much more intrigued. Your other idea seems like it could be very intriguing as well. What type of objects do you think you would photograph in different places? I'd love to see some sketch photos. Post some as soon as you can!

I think the second idea could work depending on how you approach it and how much you process it. I would like to know what object you are thinking of, is it personal?
I believe Ruth is also exploring the same topic from what she told me in class last week. She was thinking about photographing an umbrella in different places. I am sure it's okay for you to go with the same idea, but I think may be if you ask her a few questions, you won't end up with a similar book (unless of course you don't mind it)
Let us know more about what you're thinking about.
Good luck
Rezvan
I think the second idea is stronger. With the first one, it's less about you and about photography than it is documenting graffiti, which as Valerie said, has already been done a lot. Not to say that it can't be done in an interesting way (again), I just think the second idea would be more unique to you which is way more important I think.
