I decided for my book to elaborate on the last photo series I did. Friends and strangers alike will write down the worst name they have been called to their face, which will be revealed in a prison style photo. I am shooting for the book to be 30-40 pages long. Each page will have one photo competely filling the page, no border, no page number. p.s. I apologize for the clarity of the photo, the title is what the page reads. I am in the process of finding a better camera.

Thanks for your comments, Rebekah

I really like this idea. It's amazing how people who aren't familiar with each other can be alike in so many different ways. Maybe you can do the best and worst names to spice it up a little

This idea is a good one--the subject matter is a bit saddening. (not a bad thing) I just want you to sit with yourself and brainstorm about why you are attracted to it. What are you revealing about society? How will this collection of photos function. You are going to do an important thing with these images. Know fully what it is that they will do, and how they speak about people. In other words--prepare your Introduction.
You may find that adding the best names might bring the book to a balance, like the above poster said. The photos themselves should be pretty. You can think about different colored paper or markers or perhaps they write on objects or walls of their choosing. Whatever you choose, slow down and take your time when you shoot.

Hi Rebekah,

I love your idea. You could talk to 100 people and get a different answer every time. I hope you do acquire a camera that will give you the results you need. I can’t wait to see your book!

Have a wonderful week,

Karen

This is going off of what Val said a bit. I think you should at least see what different styles look like for the words each person holds. I want to see what a really prettily decorated one would look like. It would be strange to see something horrible written very bubbly.

It's a very intriguing idea. There are some ways it could turn out really nicely done, but there is the other side. I agree with Val, take your time. Try and push your self to do several varieties of the same person.

Rebekah-

I'm really into your idea. The images are so personal that we are emotionally connecting with these people because we can all relate. I really like the 'prison style' way you are doing things, but I wonder what the images would look like if the words were actually stamped on their foreheads. Just throwing that out there even though I think your idea is great.

Rebekah,

I really love the idea that you have. I would just like to see each person in a high-quality photograph with perhaps, and new angle. The mug shot is fine by me, but if you plan to make that into a 40-page book, you need to make sure that every person you photograph is willing to make this book the best. You're really on to something. I can't wait to see what else you come up with!

I agree with what the ladies above have posted. While I agree that mug shot style would complement the concept more ( it is an honest angle ) letting the participants write it on other surfaces would probably make it easier on both of you to slow down.

I love the idea, I love the idea of Best and Worst even more. I hope you find a more accommodating camera. Check out bhphotovideo.com --they have used equipment for sale that is in great shape. and if you ever have any questions about a camera feel free to shoot me an email.
Good luck!

I really don't have anything new to say. I think the idea is great and I really liked that series. I do think that the settings and the angles should really be thought out to really help capture the essence of whoever your shooting. There should be a good variation between wide and close shots, indoor and outdoor, etc. as to not have any sense of repetition.
